A∴A∴
The Magister Templi Grade
The Initiatory Structure of the A∴A∴
The Order consists of eleven degrees or levels, organized into three groups, the Orders of the SS, the RC and the GD respectively set forth in One Star in Sight sub figurâ CDLXXXIX. In the A∴A∴, blind is not blind guide and progress is measured by this series of degrees. The Order of A∴A∴ adheres more or less strictly to the guidelines set forth in Liber Collegii Sancti sub figura CLXXXV by Aleister Crowley.

Magister Templi 8° = 3□
Magister Templi. — (Master of the Temple): whose functions are fully described in Liber 418, as is this whole initiation from Adeptus Exemptus. See also "Aha!". His principal business is to tend his "garden" of disciples, and to obtain a perfect understanding of the Universe. He is a Master of Samadhi.
"Magister Templi" Summary
Master of the Temple (8°=3□): The principal business of this grade is to obtain a perfect understanding of the Universe. The essential Attainment is the perfect annihilation of that personality which limits and oppresses his true self. The Magister Templi is pre-eminently the Master of Mysticism, that is, his Understanding is entirely free from internal contradiction or external obscurity; his Word is to comprehend the existing Universe in accordance with his own Mind. This grade corresponds to Binah on the Tree of Life, and to the Secret Chiefs in the old Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Crowley also linked it with the experience he called "Shivadarshana" and with the Four Formless States of Buddhism, although he cautions against treating these criteria as sufficient for the grade.
Advance to Magus
To achieve the Degree of Magician he must perform Three Tasks:
- the renunciation of His delight in the Infinite so that he may formulate himself as the Finite
- acquisition of the practical secrets of initiation and government of His proposed new Universe
- and identification of himself with the impersonal idea of Love.
Any Neophyte of the Order (or, as some say, anyone) has the right to demand the Degree of Master of the Temple by taking the Oath of the Degree. It is expressly necessary to observe that to do such a thing is the most sublime and most terrible responsibility that one can assume, and a person who is not worthy incurs the most terrible penalties for his presumption.
