TAROT - The Meaning of the Cards
The Three of Disks
Due to the black colors of the Disks (Coins), the Three of Disks (Coins) is often interpreted as a card of concern. In contrast, it successfully passed the exam and expresses a joyful experience. Unlike the Eight of Disks, which represents the inert, the image of the master is displayed here. With this, the card expresses that we are entering the field of new experiences, where - unlike the Eight of Disks - we are already carrying the right skills and knowledge. It shows the successful completion of a given period of our studies or development, followed by a high level of resumption. |
Crowley Thoth Tarot - The Root of The Powers of Earth - The Three of Disks : Work |
THREE OF DISKS : WORK |
These cards are referred to Binah; in each of them is expressed the symbolism of Understanding. The idea has become fertilized; the triangle has been formulated. In each case, the idea is of a certain stability which can never be upset, but from which a child can issue.
The Three of Pentacles, in a similar manner, exhibits the result of the idea of Earth, of the crystallization of forces; and so the Three of Pentacles is called the Lord of Work. Something has definitely been done.
The influence of Binah in the sphere of Earth shows the material establishment of the idea of the Universe, the determination of its basic form. It is ruled by Mars in Capricornus; he is exalted in that Sign, and therefore at his best. His energy is constructive, like that of the builder or engineer. The card represents a pyramid viewed from above the apex. The base is formed by three wheels-Mercury, Sulphur, and Salt; Sattvas, Rajas, and Tamas in the Hindu system; Aleph, Shin, and Mem-Air, Fire, and Water-the three Mother letters of the Hebrew alphabet.
This pyramid is situated in the great Sea of Binah in the Night of Time, but the sea is solidified; hence the colours of the back- ground are mottled, a cold thin dark grey with a pattern of indigo and green. The sides of the pyramid have a strong reddish tint, showing the influence of Mars. |

Raven's Tarot - The Three of Disks (The roots of the powers of Earth) |
THE THREE OF DISKS - WORK |
The Three of Disks enters Binah, the fields of understanding and perception, initiatiing the process where the project that began in the Two of Disks is viewed and understood against its surrounding i.e. in its completion..
The card also talks of the alchemical wedding, in which the alchemical mercury combines sulphur with salt, thus building the living gold (the philosopher's stone). It implies the basic idea of Earth, the cristallisation of its powers and qualities, the commencement of matter to be established.
The name of the card is Works, saying that work was done to get that far, thus it implies a first taste of victory, an admission that a progress was made, a big step forward on the way. Though, further work will be needed to keep the achieved status and to proceed in it.
Drive: Manifestation, understanding
Light: Progress, cristallisation, increase of substance,
Shadow: Sloppiness or neglect after a first gain was won, stop in the middle of work |

Three of Pentacles |
THREE OF PENTACLES |
General Meaning
This suit, most often named "Coins" or "Pentacles", is a symbol for a magical talisman that represented wealth or potential. This suit represents something supportive that is available to you — whether it be health, some kind of talent, a material or financial resource.
The Three is traditionally the card of genius. Here we usually see a master craftsman conferring with his masons on the installation of a beautiful stained-glass window in the cathedral. This designer is often likened to Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo, a multi-talented visionary who has no peers in talent or productivity.
The masterwork is being proudly showcased for future generations, as an object of personal and collective pride. On some cards, the genius is portrayed at his studio, alone and burning the midnight oil, in a creative ferment — driven to draw, paint, invent, or whatever work genius wants to bring into creation. As a subtext to the rewards of genius are the days and weeks of intense concentration it takes to solve the problems that great works entail.
In the Reversed Position
The Three of Coins reversed suggests that you beware of perfectionism and other subtle forms of egoism. This may be tied to a refusal to share one's gifts and vision with the world.
Perhaps you consider the world not worth it or are afraid that others simply won't care. This is really an indirect form of perfectionism that would have you cut off your nose to spite your face. Remember that acts of genius belong more to the divine inspiration that calls them forth than they do to the personalities they come through.
In the Advice Positon
The Three of Coins in this position suggests that you showcase your unique capabilities. Let the world in on who you really are. This is a good time to seek recognition. Once you receive the appreciation you deserve, accept and savor the acknowledgment.
Expect new and exciting offers. When they arrive, accept them graciously. Why hide your light under a bushel? It does not become you to display false modesty. Practice saying to yourself, "Thank you, I accept the compliment" until you learn to fully let in this kind of affirmative grace with ease. |
