TAROT - The Meaning of the Cards
The Two of Disks
The Two of Disks is a player's decision and a carefree indecision card. It shows that we are adapting to the stream of life, through the waves and valleys we get through without difficulty. Depending on our lifestyle and the area displayed by the card, this player attitude can be judged to be skillful, smooth, fun, spontaneous, and refreshing, but it is also a nonsense, willingness to compromise, unsteadiness and adaptive flexibility. This will give the card a very wide spectrum, from the mentality of the swimmers to the deep wisdom of the fool. |

TWO OF DISKS : CHANGE |
These cards refer to Chokmah. From the point of view of the ordinary person, Chokmah is really No. 1 and not No. 2, because he is the first manifestation; Kether is completely concealed, so that nobody knows anything about it at all. Hence, only on reaching the Deuces does an element appear as the element itself. Chokmah is uncontaminated by any influence; therefore the elements here appear in their original harmonious condition.
The Two of Pentacles was of old time called the Lord of Harmonious Change. Now, more simply, Change; and here the doctrine must be stated a little more clearly. This suit being of Earth, there is a connection with the Princesses, and therefore with the final Heh of Tetragrammaton. Earth is the throne of Spirit; having got to the bottom, one immediately comes out again at the top. Hence, the card manifests the symbolism of the serpent of the endless band.
The number Two, Chokmah, here rules in the suit pertaining to Earth. It shows the type of Energy appropriate to Two, in its most fixed form. According to the doctrine that Change is the support of stability, the card is called Change.
Its celestial rulers are Jupiter and Capricornus; and these symbols are most inharmonious, so that in practical matters the good fortune of Jupiter is very limited. Their influence on the card is not great. Yet, Jupiter being himself the Wheel (Atu X), he emphasizes that idea.
The card represents two Pantacles, one above the other; they are the Chinese symbols of the Yang and Yin duplicated as in the Hsiang. One wheel is dextro- and the other laevo-rotatory. They thus represent the harmonious interplay of the Four Elements in constant movement. One may in fact consider the card as the picture of the complete manifested Universe, in respect of its dynamics.
About them is entwined a green Serpent (see Liber 65, chapter iii, verses 17-20). His tail is in his mouth. He forms the figure Eight, the symbol of the Infinite, the equation 0=2. |

Raven's Tarot - The Two of Disks (The roots of the powers of Earth) |
THE TWO OF DISKS - CHANGE |
The Two of Disks represents the Earth in Chokmah, the realm of creation and energy, directing the pure material resources of the Ace towards a specific goal, in order to change from the raw material to the actual creation process.
Further, the card is called Harmonious Change, it stands for the alternation and natural balance of gain and loss, weakness and strength, growing and fading, ever varying occupation and wandering. In nature, everything is in constant change, well balanced with and in each other, building the principle of natural growing and proceeding.
The Two of Disks reminds us that we are still part of that nature, that we have to accept the natural flow of changes and handle it with care and consideration.
Drive: Growing, proceeding. the begin of a project
Light: Flexibility, enthusiasm that a project proceeds
Shadow: Imbalance, the inability to accept a change, clinging to a status quo that is about to fade or change. |

Two of Pentacles |
TWO OF PENTACLES |
General Meaning
This suit, most often named "Coins" or "Pentacles", is a symbol for a magical talisman that represented wealth or potential. This suit represents something supportive that is available to you — whether it be health, some kind of talent, or a material or financial resource.
The Two in this suit generally features a youth juggling, with two coins juggled in figure-eight fashion, or just the coins without the youth — one heads up, the other tails — both flipping in the air. It is clear that until one or the other coin drops, the final call can not be made; there is more to learn before a decision can be made about appropriate action.
This card counsels patience, so do not allow yourself to be rushed. The figure-eight image is a symbol of immortality and eternity. Its message is "No need to hurry. You have all the time you need to work this out, no matter how things appear right now." Implied within this scenario is the idea that changes are in the works, but you will do better to stay calm until you have more information. Everything is in flux at a time like this.
In the Reversed Position
The Two of Coins reversed suggests that you let go of passivity if this is a time for action. You may be displaying too much ambivalence about outcomes, much to your detriment.
A neutral stance or procrastination will not serve you here. You must move into proactive support for the good of all concerned and leave passivity behind. At the very least, assert your personal preferences as a sign of respect for any others who also display the courage of their convictions.
In the Advice Positon
The Two of Coins in this position advises you not to choose anything definitive for the time being. Give yourself a little more time to sort out your feelings and any mixed messages you may be receiving from others.
Ask yourself — are all the facts in yet? Or is the coin still flipping in the air? There is no need to be goaded into premature decisions or actions. Act only when you are able to do so with a unified heart and mind. |
