human arts | field work | academic studies | travels | anthropology library — This page is part of the personal archives and is no longer maintained — Eötvös Lóránd University of Sciences Department of Cultural Anthropology Research I have studied Cultural Anthropology at the Eötvös Lóránd University of Sciences, Faculty of Arts (ELTE BTK) in Budapest [« go to studies ]. Due to my deep involvement in Eastern philosophy I have specialized in the anthropology of religion, studying religious human behavior. As my area of research I have specialized on Indian and Tibetan culture. My major field of interest is the Tantric tradition - especially the cross-cultural interference of Hindu and Buddhist religious practice. Before finishing my MA, I have been on two expeditions to India, Nepal and Tibet, doing my own research on Hindu saiva sects in Northern India. I wrote my thesis on The Cult of Siva. Field Work Writings and Publications Presentations Studies In 1997 I was a founding member of the Hungarian Cultural Anthropology Society (Magyar Kulturális Antropológiai Társaság), headed by Lajos Boglár at the time. "A Társaság célja az alapítók szellemében: az antropológiai-etnológiai kultúra-kutatás elősegítése, az ilyen irányú hazai tevékenységek ösztönzése, a kulturális antropológia egyetemi-főiskolai és középfokú oktatásának támogatása, a hazai kutatók és a kulturális antropológiai képzésben résztvevő hallgatók számára együttműködési és konzultációs fórumok biztosítása, a fentiekben meghatározott területeken született hazai tudományos eredmények bel- és külföldi népszerűsítése, a nemzetközi szakmai kapcsolatok ápolása és elősegítése, kapcsolatok kiépítése hasonló célú nemzetközi társaságokkal. A Társaság programjába illőnek tekinti a kulturális antropológia szakembereinek érdekvédelmét is, továbbá azt a feladatot, amelyet egyes munkacsoportjai, műhelyei révén a szakmai orientáció alakításában vállalhat és megvalósíthat. A Társaság támogatni, szolgálni, gazdagítani hivatott az antropológiai hazai meggyökeresedésének folyamatát, s céljai megvalósítása érdekében konferenciákat, vitákat, kiállításokat szervez, közös kutatási tevékenységeket ösztönöz, pályázatokat hirdet, időszakos és állandó kiadványokat ad közre, és támogatja mások ilyen irányú tevékenységét." Between 1997-98 I gave a series of lectures at the Department of Cultural Anthropology at the Eötvös Lóránd University of Sciences, Faculty of Arts (ELTE BTK) in Budapest. Although given the opportunity to give more lectures, due to lack of financial compensation I was forced to give up the voluntary teaching. Since then I do occasionally give lectures on the request of the department, but only as a visiting professor. I also gave a series of lectures on topics relating to cultural anthropology at the Gate of Dharma Buddhist College [« go to Oriental teaching ], where with some of my colleagues we have created a group of students and professional cultural anthropologists specializing in  Eastern cultures. We are hoping that with the professional oriental training and good oriental language skills, many students can justly contribute to the anthropological research of Eastern cultures in Hungary. There have already been great contributions to the research of Hindu Tantric and Chinese Taoist sects. Field Work During my college years I have been on two expeditions to the Himalayas both carrying interests for my » Buddhist studies and cultural anthropology research. My first journey took me through Kashmir, Ladakh (Western Tibet), and NorthIndia in 1995. My second journey took me to Ladakh & Zanskar (Western Tibet) again and to Nepal in 1998. I have also studied some of the oasis in the Sahara in Northern Africa near the Chott el Jerid in Tunisia in 1996.
